TV have been around for 50 years, so how could they be reinvented by Apple?
Well, think of your iPhone and think of what an Apple iTV could potentially do. Lets take a look:
Think about the Apple iTV as a very large Ipad – it will either connect through WiFi or through Cable DSL, and if your TV will now have its own storage memory and OS, how is this different from a tablet or an iMac? It’s not. It’s just bigger and it has channels.
Home Central Control – The idea is to have your TV is the main control hub for your home. Your TV can connect with all your computers, smartphones and even appliances and monitor everything through your TV screen. You will be able to monitor your security as well.
Home communication – the TV become your own communication central, compatible with Iphone, e-mail, chat, VoIP services like Skype.
Since it is apps-based and always connected, social media will be a part of the TV experience: watch together, share movies, hang-out in circles (video and chat while watching).
News channels/apps – No more satellite TV. Channels comes as apps, they are on demand, and they can be very niched and include Youtube videos, or interactive version of an existing TV gameshow (like Big Brother or who want to be millionaire)
Movies/Games – Pick your source! Apple Videos, Amazon, Netflix, Google Music… they are all online. No more buying physical games just upload it to your online account. And you could use your Iphone/Ipad as a controller.
Voice Controls – Apple is planning to use Siri on the iTV. So image you “TELL” your TV what you are looking for and it responds. “Siri, please find me ESPN and TSN.” Do you know what this means? No more remote controls!!
Clouds – Apple will probably integrate their iCloud service with their TV. Save your movies and shows to your cloud. View pictures or listen to your music through the TV. View your calendar or email through your TV.
